Politics by Intimidation

[A Greater Cleveland Area] Village used a police officer and a warning to apparently “intimidate” those that have actively participate in questioning council’s actions.  At the last council meeting, some of us were greeted by a police officer that was handing out copies of the state ordinance for “disturbing a lawful meeting.”    The ordinance says that no person shall disrupt a meeting by making “any utterance, gesture or display which outrages the sensibilities of the group.”

The list of disturbances that outrage the sensibilities of a group is missing the word “issues” that may disturb certain council members.  When citizens question council’s decisions, some council members go on the attack, rather than take deep consideration into the concerns of the citizens.

We are not criminals.  We are intelligent, voting citizens.  We don’t deserve emotionally charged responses or assault that borders harassment.  We expect the same intelligent banter with council that council has within itself.  Council is an extension of the people.   Our community is one as a group, unique as individuals, and deserve respect as taxpayers, homeowners and voters.

The recent “threat” we were handed at the last council meeting may have satisfied the egos of those on council who believe in selective censorship, but it put a damper on the character of the community.   Controversial issues should bring people to the table, not to jail.

Our Council’s solution seems to be to silence those who are trying to get their attention.   Unfortunately in our community, the majority of our council members represent the minority of the population on many divisive issues.   And since the majority of the population does not attend council meetings, the minority can make decisions without much interference.    Then when we do interfere, it becomes the discretion of the council as to whether they are “disturbed” by the issue.  If they are disturbed, we could be facing a 4th degree misdemeanor.

I’m sure that Thomas Jefferson had something else in mind when declaring freedom for all Americans.

It’s time to pay attention to your council before it’s too late.  [A Greater Cleveland Area] Village is facing some serious zoning issues at the June 9th Council meeting.  Please attend, but watch what you say, or else…

U.S. Economic Incentive Package-Considerations
by
Timothy E. Borkowski

As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said each and every one of us would now get a nice part of the $145-billion U.S. Economic Incentive Package.

-If we spend that money at Wal-Mart,  the money will go to China .

-If we spend it on gasoline, the money will all go to the the Middle East!

-If we purchase a computer, the money will go to India , China or Japan!

-If we purchase fruit and vegetables the money will  go to Mexico , Honduras , and Guatemala !

-If we purchase a good car, the money will  go to Japan or Germany !

-If we purchase as seen on TV products, the money will  go to Taiwan!

The "Help" to the American Economy will only be that of a pass-through intermediary.

The goal of such an Economic Incentive Package should be to keep American Dollars in America . Consequently, the only way to keep
that money here in the US  to buy, domestic beer and prescription Drugs as these are about the only things still made in the America!
